Why White Supremacy Keeps Rearing Its Incredibly Ugly Head

The imagery of nine Black teenagers desegregating Little Rock Central High School is an almost indelible part of the American psyche. Nine Black students—nine Black children—who faced down screaming mobs, armed guards, and a governor willing to defy federal authority in the name of segregation. In desegregating Central High, they challenged centuries-old white supremacy. In the dominant narrative of American history, they won. But that was never a victory on which African Americans could rest on their laurels. And that was proven on December 6, 2025, when white supremacy came home to roost.
